Mission Statement
Quilts4Vets presents handmade heirloom quilts to U.S. Veterans suffering from the traumas of military service.
Laurie Lee Dovey founded Quilts4Vets in 2017 after she retired. She was a magazine writer and photographer, and media consultant for 40-plus years. She found retirement difficult and needed a focus, a cause.
While making a quilt for her husband, a Korean War Army Airborne Ranger, her calling became crystal clear. She would make quilts for veterans and distribute them through faith-based organizations that use outdoor recreation, like hunting, fishing and camping, along with spiritual guidance, to help emotionally and physically challenged veterans.
Seven years later, in 2024, Dovey enlisted the talents of business, media, entertainment, and quilting professionals to serve on the board of directors and move the organization into the future.
