Barbara Schwinn – President

Barbara has a 40-year business background serving in varied positions in financial firms and real estate partnerships, and was coordinator of the receivership department of a Federal Bankruptcy Trustee. She formed the nonprofit group NABT (National Association of Bankruptcy Trustees), and organized its first two conventions.

After retiring from the business world, she created her own business YOU CAN SEW and taught sewing lessons and managed a sewing machine shop. She is a former member and past president of the non-profit The Haute Couture Society, which promoted the fashion/sewing industries and provided scholarships for college students majoring in fashion.

Barbara is a past president of PTA, women’s mentor, former Sunday School teacher and children’s music/choir leader, former member of the San Jose Chapter of Sweet Adelines, volunteer at Lodge of Hope with Peterson’s Outdoor Ministry. She is currently Q4V’s “presenter of the quilts” at POM’s veteran events in Missouri.

Barbara and her husband Jeff, a Marine Vietnam combat veteran, have a blended family of 5 children, 11 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. She loves photography, sewing, reading, learning, teaching…. and is always encouraging others.

Jenn Tincher – Secretary

Jenn is the owner of JT-Quilting Longarm Quilting and Quilt Design. and resides on a small country farm in Washington state. She is an avid quilt maker and  has had her patterns published in magazines. A trip to Jenn’s website is a journey full of color, wonder, and imagination.

Jenn is one of Q4V’s key volunteers, taking time to make and finish numerous quilts each year.

She loves her family, has a strong Christian background, and is honored to help veterans using her quilting talents.

When Jenn is not quilting she is gardening and working her horses and keeping her pack of German Shepards in check. She loves the outdoors, hunting, and packing her horses in the wilderness, with her husband and two sons.  

Shellie Huth – Treasurer

Shellie has a B.A., in Information Technology and a Master’s in Education. She has worked at United Parcel Service (UPS) for over 30 years serving in many roles roles including graphic designer, training manager, and designer and developer of a learning management system used at UPS to support training of over 400,000 employees worldwide.

Shellie has held a variety of roles in corporate at UPS too, including rotations in communications, HR learning and development, and engineering.

Volunteering is important to Shellie. During seven years as the team mom for a son’s football team, she was responsible for all fundraisers, event planning, managing funds, and communications. She was also treasurer for the Touchdown Club which included funds management, fundraising, managing the concession stand, and special-event coordination.

Shellie is married with two grown sons, and lives in South Carolina.

Christian Berg – Director

Christian Berg is an award-winning journalist and outdoor media veteran who currently serves as editor-in-chief of Bowhunter magazine and co-host of The Bowhunter Podcast. Now in its 53rd year, Bowhunter is the undisputed leader in bowhunting media, offering the world’s largest bowhunting-focused print publication and an unmatched combined multimedia reach across print, digital, TV and social platforms.

In addition to Bowhunter, Christian directs editorial operations for two additional special-interest publications owned by Outdoor Sportsman Group — Crossbow Revolution and Tree Saddle Hunter. Prior to his current roles, Christian served as editor of Petersen’s Bowhunting for 15 years, and prior to that, he spent 17 years as full-time news reporter and outdoor writer. An accomplished bowhunter, Christian has successfully pursued big game across North America and around the world.

Christian earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Messiah University and lives with his family in the mountains of Northeast Pennsylvania.

Carol Lee Espy – Director

Carol Lee is what is known in media circles as a multi-hyphenate: Singer-songwriter-voice-over artist, TV-Radio Host , multi-Emmy-award winner, and producer-writer, you get the picture.

Her stories for WQED have garnered her multiple Emmy wins and nominations for her music composition.

Carol’s voice is well known for voice over work  on TV and radio, jingles, industrial non- broadcast and years of hosting and co-hosting on KDKA, Y108, WDVE, and WQED. She hosted two long-running TV shows for KDKA and WQED in Pittsburgh, Pa.

Most of all, Carol is a proud military mom and daughter of a WWII Veteran (BTW it was her father’s story as a Navy Corpsman in WWII that won an Emmy).

Her home studio, which is mostly run on coffee and chocolate,  is always buzzing with music and voices. Semi-retired but not slowing down, Carol is also an avid gardener, a frustrated golfer, and does the NYT’s crossword puzzle in pen, just because. 

Jeff Jay – Director, Chaplain

Jeff is an enthusiastic professional who exhibits an unwavering ethical and value-based leadership, genuine concern for individuals and families, highly adaptive ability for problem solving and providing spiritual leadership to all he comes into contact with.

Having recently wrapped a 20-year career as an Army chaplain, Jeff understands commitment, dedication, leadership and resilience.

Jeff participated in the 2024 Annual Chaplain’s Turkey Hunt with Peterson Outdoors Ministries and received his quilt from Quilts4Vets.

Tron Peterson – Advisory Director

Tron is the founder and leader of Peterson Outdoors Ministries. POM’s Mission is: to bring restoration, hope, and healing to our beloved military families who are in distress; to provide a place of refuge for those who battle daily with disabilities, illness, and suffering; and to provide aid and support for family members caring for their loved ones with disabilities.

Tron also founded and established the Lodge of Hope in 2017. The Lodge of Hope campus, comprised of 200 acres and three main structures, is more than an all-inclusive ministry and veteran-event destination, it’s a place in nature where peace, serenity, and a strong connection to God’s great outdoors resides. It is truly a gorgeous place of refuge and renewal that will connect with your heart and soul.

Laurie Lee Dovey – Founder &
Executive Director

Laurie Lee (LLD) founded Quilts4Vets in 2017, and fostered the organization through its first seven years.  LLD also owns LLD Ink (lldink.com), a media, communications, and consulting company. She is a renowned writer, photographer, and media consultant in the outdoor recreation industry.

LLD has crafted and had thousands of articles and images published, and has received scores of awards for her work. She was a founding board member of the Professional Outdoor Media Association (POMA) and board member and officer of the Outdoor Writers Association of America (OWAA). She served as the POMA Executive Director for 10 years.

LLD is also an avid outdoorsman and loves hunting, fishing, camping, the shooting sports, and hanging with her husband Jim, an Army Airborne (101st, Korea) veteran, and their three dogs Angel (Doxie), Grace (Old English Bulldog), and Stella (Borador).
